| Newlands race 2xHelens |

Coledale Horseshoe 29 March.
Five of us battled the wind to complete the race today. The strong gusts made what in previous years has been easy running on the top nigh on impossible. On the plus side, the ground was dry; the heavy rain held off until after the end of the race; and there was plenty of tea and a good selection of cakes to aid refuelling.
Secondly , Newlands Round :
The Newlands Memorial was a scorcher this year and, as part of the English Championship, the competition for places was pretty hot too. We had four runners from the club: Tom Knight, Matthew Diment, Helen Lilley and myself.
As is traditional in English Champs races, the women started 15 minutes before the men so Helen and I had plenty of opportunity to marvel at the speed of the leading men as they danced up and down the slopes like gazelles.
Unfortunately, the split start times meant that I failed miserably to get a team photo so you’ll just have to make do with the two Helens.
The next race in the Poly Champs series is The Fox and Hounds on Sunday 11th May organised by Esk Valley.
